An 11-year-old girl proposed the name for Pluto after the Roman God of the Underworld.  (Pluto was discovered in 1930 – WOW)
Now the follow up question….is Pluto a planet or not?  The scientific community seems to be in a frequent debate about this… and if you google this you may see suggestions for Pluto is a planet, then Pluto is not a planet, then Pluto is a planet again, and finally that it has been determined to be a dwarf planet.  So check this out:  What is the controversy with Pluto?
Pluto only meets two of the criteria required to be a planet. Because it is not gravitationally dominant, Pluto is considered a dwarf planet. However, only 5% of the world’s astronomers voted on the redefinition, sparking controversy in the astronomy community. Aug 24, 2022, No wonder it is so far out there and acting like a loner – it has an identity crisis.
